Skookum Sanding Belts: Built for Reliable Performance and Longer Life

Skookum Sanding Belts

Built for smoother finishes, longer life, and dependable performance.

Our Skookum Sanding Belts are converted to order in Sherbrooke, Quebec, in standard and custom sizes for woodworking, metalworking and specialty applications. Choose the width, length, grit and belt material that suit your equipment and the work ahead.

Whether you're running a busy cabinet shop, shaping a knife or tackling a project in your home workshop, the right belt starts with more than its size. We help professional shops, contractors, makers and DIYers match their abrasive to the material, machine and finish they need.

What Makes Our Skookum Sanding Belts Different?

✔ Made to Order for Your Equipment

Standard sizes and less common dimensions are both made to order. You can select the belt size and construction your equipment requires, with abrasive and grit options to suit the application.

✔ Quality Materials, Canadian Conversion

We use globally sourced abrasive materials from well-established, trusted manufacturers, then convert them into finished belts in Canada. Being clear about that work and material sourcing is part of our commitment to Canadian manufacturing.

✔ Options for Different Sanding Jobs

Grain, grit and backing all affect how a belt performs. Our range includes choices for stock removal, shaping, surface preparation and finishing, with constructions suited to different workloads.

✔ Straightforward Ordering & Helpful Support

Our online builder shows pricing and minimum quantities for your selection. If you're unsure where to start, tell us about your sander and material. We'll help narrow down the options.

What Sanding Belt Options Do We Offer?

Available Abrasive Types

  • Aluminum Oxide – A versatile starting point for woodworking and general sanding on suitable metals. Available constructions cover stock removal through finishing.
  • Zirconia Alumina – A tough abrasive for heavier stock removal on steel, stainless steel and hardwood, when the machine and application provide the appropriate working pressure.
  • Ceramic Alumina – Options for demanding metalworking, including stainless steel, tool steel and other hard alloys. Match the belt to your machine's speed, load and intended application.
  • Silicon Carbide – Options for glass, stone, plastics, rubber and selected fine-finishing work. Check the particular belt's recommended materials and operating conditions.

Grit & Backing Choices

Available grits cover coarse stock removal through fine finishing, with combinations varying by abrasive and backing. Lower grit numbers leave a coarser scratch; higher numbers produce a finer scratch pattern. Start only as coarse as the work requires, then progress through suitable finer grits.

Backing matters too. Flexible cloth can suit contours and profiles, while heavier cloth constructions support more demanding grinding. Paper-backed options suit compatible wide-belt finishing equipment. Choose the complete belt construction for your application.

Choosing the Right Fit

  • Your size – Confirm the width and full belt length using your machine specifications or an existing belt.
  • Your material – Match the specific belt to the wood, metal or specialty material you're working with.
  • Your task – Heavy removal, light blending and final finishing call for different grit and construction choices.
  • Your machine – Check backing suitability, operating speed and whether the belt is rated for your wet or dry process.
